Many years ago I went to Madrid, Spain with the intent of studying dance. I was fortunate to have a friend from high school there, and I got to stay with her and her family. When I wasn't dancing I spent a lot of my free time at her family's flower shop, Yuka. It was a small space but with just enough room to create bouquets and wedding arrangements. I recently found this picture reminding me of how happy I was and what a special time that was for me. At VSF, I strive to ensure my employees are growing and learning, so they too can look back at their time here with the same fond memories.
A Valentine's Day to remember
This was one of our busiest Valentine's Day ever and by far the most memorable. In all my years in the floral industry I have never had an order as impressive as a 1,000 roses. One thousand is the number of perfection, and that is exactly what this customer thought of his girlfriend. By filling his trunk full of roses to pop the question he staged the marriage proposal of a lifetime.
Tis' the season
Wreath and garlands are such an import part of the holidays and for city dwellers they often take the place of a Christmas tree. We have had so much fun customizing wreaths this year, but due to the high demand we weren't fast enough in capturing all the images. Should you still need one don't hesitate in giving us a call.
Lauren's artistry at work.
Voila, the perfect wreath. She was able to extend the life of these dried proteas.
All local greens used to create a deliciously fragrant wreath.
A combinations of firs, bay laurel, privett, kumquats, and pink succulent blossoms make for great texture.
Sometimes the embellishments are small touches of succulents and feathers.
Living wreaths are also fantastic gifts, that last well beyond the holiday season.
Mounted on a moss frame with legs. soak in a tub of water once an month and you'll have a long last wreath.
Succulent living wreaths.
I love to be inspired by other florist. Recommended wreath books The Wreath Recipe by Alethea Harampolis and Jill Rizzo of Studio Choo and Living Wreaths by Natalie Bernhisel Robinson.
Pods
Pods are some of my favorite items to add to a bouquet. They don't take up a lot of space or even add much color. However, the texture they add forces the observer to take a closer look at a floral arrangement. And since the pods hold the seeds, I especially love how they hold the possibly of more flowers to come.
Just a few different pods that can be found in our shop
Lotus pods and monkey balls.
